Bill started hybridizing in 2002. His first two introductions in 2006 were 'Sound The Trumpets' and 'All American Star.' As of 2022, Bill has 85 introductions.
In 2007, Bill won 'Hybridizer of the Year' for North and South Carolina, Region 15 with the 'Cat Ballou'. See picture on the right.
During the hybridizing process, seedlings are evaluated for three years, keeping only the cultivars with unusual and outstanding blooms, good plant habit, as well as good branching and bud count.
I depend on Linda a lot in my hybridizing program. She is always there when it comes to preparing gardens, planting tiny seedlings from pots into the ground, weed pulling, fertilizing, and more.
Hybridizing is a great way to find surprises in the garden. With each seedling blooming for the first time, you never know what excitement you will find.
